International Monetary Fund

The International Monetary Fund is an international organization uniting 184 member countries. The main task of the IMF is ensuring stability of the international monetary system.

IMF objectives include deepening the international monetary cooperation; strengthening financial stability; strengthening economic growth and high level of employment; and facilitating the creation of a multilateral system of payments.

To maintain stability and prevent crises in the international monetary system, the IMF conducts overviews of national, regional, and global economic development. The IMF provides advice to its 184 member countries, helping them to pursue a policy contributing to financial stability, reducing their vulnerability to economic and financial threats, and raising the living standards of the population. The IMF also provides a forum for member countries to discuss national, regional, and global consequences of their policies. The IMF also provides member countries with temporary funding to help them adjust their trade balances.

The IMF provides technical assistance and training to facilitate countries in the matter of raising the professionalism of institutions in charge of ensuring economic stability and growth.

As part of its efforts, the IMF focuses considerable attention on matters of building AML/CFT systems in member countries. To this end, the IMF organizes training in various forms in member countries for representatives of the authorities tasked with combating money laundering, develops reference manuals, conducts evaluations of national AML/CFT systems for compliance with the relevant international standards. The IMF carries out its AML activities in close cooperation with the World Bank.
